- In November 2022, a peace agreement was signed that reduced the intensity of the conflict. However, ethnic tensions persisted in other regions of Ethiopia, such as Oromia and Amhara.
- The humanitarian crisis remains severe, with millions of people in urgent need of food assistance.
- In 2023, a new genocide broke out in Sudan with the internal conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum, triggering a humanitarian crisis and mass displacement both within the country and to neighboring nations.
