humanitarian flights

Islamabad (Pakistan)

In July 2022, we transported 217 Afghan refugees from Islamabad, Pakistan, to Rome Fiumicino Airport, Italy. Most of them were families, women, and children, fleeing the terror of the Taliban’s return to their homeland. All of them found a safe way out with guarantees of integration. Thanks to the cooperation between Open Arms and Solidaire, with the collaboration of various Italian civil society organizations, such as ARCI, FCDE, Comunità di Sant’Egidio, etc.

This humanitarian corridor is part of our initiative to look for alternatives at source and actively work to build safe and legal pathways to prevent the unnecessary death and suffering of people in vulnerable situations. Without these humanitarian air corridors, they would have no alternative but to risk their lives at sea.
