Covid-19

During the health emergency, we entered nursing homes and joined healthcare teams to help protect the lives of the most vulnerable: the elderly.

Transfer of elderly people

Covid-19 had a devastating impact on nursing homes. Therefore, Open Arms collaborated with Barcelona City Council to transfer elderly people from nursing homes to five units, each staffed by two volunteers, to stop the spread of the virus and prevent deaths.

Early detection of the virus was one of the most effective measures to curb the spread. Open Arms provided the Catalan Department of Health with an operation of 30 vehicles and more than 70 fully trained volunteers. They all joined the primary care teams to perform tests and collect samples from people living near the care homes.

Assistance to seasonal workers

During the Covid-19 outbreaks, the disease took its toll on seasonal workers in regions such as Segrià (Lleida).

Open Arms has signed a collaboration agreement with the region’s town councils and the Segrià Regional Council to assist vulnerable fruit harvesters who have tested positive for COVID-19, are asymptomatic, or have mild cases.
