DANA in Valencia

The Valencian Community suffered severe flooding due to a DANA (high tidal wave) on October 29, 2024, and in the days following. The disaster left more than 200 dead and affected thousands of people, in addition to causing significant material damage. Open Arms deployed its teams to the most affected areas within the first 48 hours to assist with emergency response efforts on land and at sea.

On land, Open Arms deployed to the most affected towns: Paiporta, Massanassa, Utiel, Benetúser, and Alfafar. In coordination with local authorities, they assisted in the rescue and evacuation of affected people, as well as in the pumping out of underground water and the supply of emergency supplies.

At sea, Open Arms’ flagship, coordinated by the official search operation, helped locate victims of the DANA. This collaboration was key to the rapid response to the emergency.

Open Arms’ rapid response demonstrates its commitment to helping people in emergency situations, wherever they may be. Community support is always vital to continuing to provide assistance in critical times.
